Kitesurfing & Wingfoil Lessons with Radio Coaching | Langebaan
Learn Kitesurfing & Wingfoiling with Radio Communication
Learning to kitesurf or wingfoil is all about progression. The more time you spend actually riding, the faster you begin to understand the equipment, develop your technique and build confidence on the water.
At Constantly Kiting in Langebaan, we use radio communication during our kitesurfing and wingfoiling lessons, allowing our instructors to coach you while you're out on the water.
Instead of waiting until you return to your instructor to find out what went wrong — or what went right — you can receive guidance when you need it most.
Your Instructor Is Right There With You
One of the challenges of teaching watersports is distance.
As your skills improve, you'll naturally start travelling further away from your instructor. Traditional coaching can quickly turn into shouting across the water, hand signals and repeatedly returning to shore for feedback.
Radio communication changes that.
During applicable lessons, you'll wear a radio system that allows you to hear your instructor clearly while you're riding.
Your instructor can watch what you're doing and provide simple, immediate instructions to help you make adjustments in real time.
It creates the feeling that your instructor is right there with you — even when you're riding further out on the water.
Why We Use Radios for Kitesurfing Lessons
When you're learning to kitesurf, a small adjustment can make an enormous difference.
Your kite might be slightly too high. You may need more pressure through your back foot. You could be trying to stand up too quickly during your water start or simply looking in the wrong direction.
Without radio communication, you might repeat the same mistake several times before receiving feedback.
With your instructor communicating directly with you, corrections can happen immediately.
You might hear:
“Bring the kite slightly lower.”
“Wait... now stand.”
“Look where you want to go.”
“More pressure on your back foot.”
Those short instructions at exactly the right moment can help you connect what you're feeling with what you need to change.
And when you get it right, your instructor can reinforce that too.
More Riding. Less Shouting.
Radio coaching isn't about filling your ears with constant instructions.
Good coaching means knowing when to speak and when to let you ride.
Our instructors use the radio to provide clear, relevant feedback while still giving you the space to feel the equipment and develop your own understanding.
It also means less time stopping, returning to your instructor and restarting the exercise.
That can make a lesson flow much more naturally and helps us make better use of your time on the water.
Radio Coaching for Wingfoil Lessons
Radio communication can be particularly useful when learning to wingfoil.
Once you start travelling longer distances and working towards your first flights on the foil, staying physically close to an instructor becomes increasingly difficult.
The radio allows your instructor to continue coaching from a distance.
They can help you adjust your stance, wing position, weight distribution and foil control while watching how the board responds underneath you.
When you're beginning to foil, things happen quickly.
The board starts to rise.
Your weight shifts.
The foil accelerates.
And suddenly you're flying.
Having an instructor able to give you a simple correction at that exact moment can make it much easier to understand what's happening beneath your feet.
Perfect for Progression Sessions
Radio communication isn't only useful for complete beginners.
For riders who are already independent, it becomes a powerful coaching tool.
An instructor can observe your riding from a better perspective and help identify small technical changes that can improve your performance.
Depending on your level and goals, that could mean working on:
-
Riding position and efficiency
-
Upwind technique
-
Transitions and turns
-
Kite or wing control
-
Foil control
-
Confidence and consistency
-
More advanced riding techniques
Instead of explaining everything before you attempt a manoeuvre and trying to remember it once you're riding, coaching can continue throughout the session.
Building Independent Riders
Ultimately, our goal isn't to have an instructor constantly telling you what to do.
It's the opposite.
We want to help you become an independent, confident rider who understands what's happening and can make the right decisions without an instructor beside you.
Radio coaching helps bridge that gap.
Early in your progression, you may receive more guidance. As your skills and confidence improve, the instructor can gradually step back and allow you to make more decisions yourself.
The radio remains there when you need it.
