With the season just in front of us and not having got down to Shark Bay in Langebaan since I’ve been back in Cape Town. I decide to go have a look this morning and was completely blown back.
Coming over the hill i tried to approach the entrance to Shark Bays white road as normal only to be met by my first barrier which wouldn’t let me through, at all.Not only that i was met by what i can only assume is the first of meany brick walls to come.
The Changes where ” soul distroying ”
I’m a west coast boy. through and through. My heart and soul beats Cape Sea Water and South Easter strength flows through me keeping me firm in the belief that not a square inch of this beautiful coast line i call home would be taken for granted by those wanting only to gain from it. How its come to this i don’t know. But I’m not only upset saddened by the act of all of it.
For years Shark Bay has served as a haven to so many kitesurfers, Making Langebaan a safe place to come a learn and enjoy the friendly atmosphere that it has always provided and all i can see now is the distant location of a great place to kitesurf and learn to kitesurf being consumed by development once more.
Allot is unclear about what is going on in Shark Bay, And for those interested in what is going on i think the shock of seeing some of the pictures i took on this morning the 6th of October 2011 there isn’t much else to be said. Development was moving forward and access will be denided to all those wanting to get down the beautiful haven that will only be open the owners in terms of car access.
Facts are.
1. you will have to park your car on the road to walk almost a 1km with you gear where if the local traffic department come a long you will get a fine as there is no legal parking on the road.
2.It is totally unsafe to walk down the nature reserve road if cars are park on that road. Cars come down there at a speed like.
3. Walking from the yacht harbour entrance is just as bad. Much further walk and road is unscraped and a nightmare for anyone not owning a 4×4.
4. Walking from either side of the property barrier will be almost a 1km walk for all family’s, Fisherman and kitesurfers.
These are four points of almost 20 points i came to see when i was there this morning.
Whats next for Shark Bay… ??? I’m not sure, but i plan to start finding out more about why i as a South African born citzen has to be told i cant go somewhere where it is my GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO GO…
